Fifth Sunday in Ordinary Time – 4 February 2007

Who will be our messenger’? (1st reading).

‘They left everything and followed Jesus’ (Gospel).

The call to follow Jesus does not come in thunder and lightning but in the ordinary day to day experiences of life: washing nets or washing up, raising children, preparing for exams or preparing a budget, working at a computer or repairing a car.

Isaiah, Paul and Peter were ordinary blokes. In a group they would not have stood out. Their backgrounds were very ordinary. Yet God chose them. All three surrendered to their God and produced extraordinary results.

Why do we hold back?

When were the times you felt ‘called’ to do something?

Now did you respond?
